India Post Announces Next Day Service
Internet Goes Crazy
The entire country of India cannot stop celebrating India Post’s new 24-hour and 48-hour Speed Post which was launched on 17 March 2026, and available in the 6 metro cities of New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
Announcements on LinkedIn are ripe with analysts harping that India Post has entered the Quick Commerce turf wars dominated by Zepto and Blinkit.
Coincidentally FedEx announced FedEx Same Day Local a 2-hour delivery service in the US around the same time, further causing professionals to lump India Posts’ announcement into the Quick Commerce service category.
Indeed the fact that a postal operator in an expansive country of nearly 1.5 billion can offer a time definite service is impressive, however, the initial launch is limited to only shipments between 6 major cities.
When that it taken into account, it’s a next day service, and here’s what other existing major traditional logistics players are already offering:
XpressBees - Same-day and next-day delivery
Delhivery - Same-day pickup with next-day delivery
BlueDart - Next day delivery
Furthermore, these delivery speeds simply cannot compare to true Quick Commerce immediate delivery companies such as Zepto, Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart and others that will all deliver orders under 30 minutes.
While India Post deserves recognition for it’s progress, let’s not forget just how ultra competitive the Indian ecommerce logistics market is.
